Domaine de Couron
Côtes du Rhône ‘Cuvee Marie Dubois’
Grower:Jean-Luc and Marie Lise Dorthe, a parcel of Syrah planted in 1946.
Location: Saint Marcel d’Ardeche, 45 miles northwest of Avignon. The Dorthe family have found artifacts (coins, parts of an old olive press, etc) from metallurgy dated to 30 AD, attested this estate’s history as a former roman outpost.
Grape Varieties: 100 % Syrah.
Production: 225 cases
Vinification: One year in vat. 60 % of the grapes are aged in a Seguin Moreau 225 liter oak barrel for 2 years. Fined with eggs and unfiltered, the wines are bottled by gravity, and labeled by hand.
“....The only wine to see some wood, ...checks in as a 100% Syrah that spent 12 months in 2-year-old barrels. It delivers plenty of sweet black raspberries, spice-box, crushed flowers and cedar qualities as well as a medium-bodied, clean and nicely focused profile on the palate.”
