Fabre Montmayou 2017 Rose

ABOUT THE PRODUCER
  • Hervé Fabre moved to Mendoza from his native Bordeaux in the early nineties and was the first foreigner to construct and operate a winery in the region.
  • The winery’s offerings are based on the incredible collection of vineyards Hervé Fabre purchased during his first years in Mendoza, all on original rootstock and some planted to vines that are over 100 years in age.
  • Fabre Montmayou’s offerings are year in and year out some of the most critically acclaimed examples in the region, and more European in style than their Mendoza counterparts - Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate has called them “Argentine wines with a French accent”
ABOUT THE WINE
  • The big selling point for you here is that this is NOT SAIGNEE, i.e. NOT made from “bleed juice” as are most South American rosé wines and most other domestic and international rosé wines in this price range. Bleed juice rosé might be cheap and easy to make but it is clumsy to drink.
  • All of the rosé we import, including this example from Fabre, is made using the far superior “skin contact” method. What is that? It is the traditional method used in Provence, where you farm your red grape bearing vines the same as you would your white grape bearing vines, and consequently harvest them a month prior to when you would harvest the red grapes in your “red” wine bottlings. This means a fresher flavor profile, much more complexity, and natural/balanced acid. Skins stay in contact with juice for a few hours after crush and from there the juice is pressed, and fermentation begins.
  • With the current year vintage arriving in our warehouse each June, this is usually the youngest example of rosé in the US market.
